Remington UMC .223 Remington 55gr MC / FMJ ammo is made right here in the U.S.A. from all-new Remington components. UMC.223 Remington 55gr MC / FMJ offers outstanding performance without any compromise in quality, providing the shooter with an excellent value for target practice, or preparing for that major hunt or competition without burning.

I use mostly UMC .223 55gr FMJ for target practice. I do not have short-stroking problems, in three different AR's (16" carbine, 16" mid-length gas system, 20" rifle). I did initially have trouble with the bolt stop not being activated in the 16" carbine, but solved that with cleaning and FP-10 on all relevant parts.

For nearly 140 years, the Union Metallic Cartridge Company name has been synonymous with some of the finest ammunition made. Since its beginning in 1867, UMC has blazed a trail of innovation in cartridge-making excellence that continues to this day.

I'm giving serious thought to buying a Mini 14. I was originaly thinking about a marlin camp 9 because of the price of 9mm ammo. Most of the .223 I've seen is in the $12 to $16 range for a box of 20. Anyway, I found a local discount store that sells the 55 grain Remington UMC for $6 for a box.
