Dec 03, 2011 · 5.56 vs 5.45 might be a better comparison. 7.62×39 is really in a class of its own. Ok, the 7.62×45 Czech, and the 7.62×33 German, but those aren't used much anymore. The .22 caliber bullets rely heavily on high velocity while the 7.62×39 is heavy enough to still have some umph at lower velocity.
How Many Rounds Are In A Case Of .223 Ammo The external dimensional specifications of .223 Remington and 5.56×45mm NATO brass cases are nearly identical. The cases tend to have similar case capacity when measured (case capacities have been observed to vary by as much as 2.6 grains (0.17 ml), although the shoulder profile and neck length are not the same and 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge.
Beyond 100 meters, the 7.62×39 does better. Most likely because, although slower at the muzzle; it sheds velocity more gradually than the 5.56 offerings ( at least with standard ball). One of the reasons why as far as AK pistols&SBR's I tend to prefer the 7.62×39. 5.56&5.45 both rely on a higher muzzle velocity to achieve their terminal results.
Jan 16, 2012 · Early in this thread JonM gave a great answer on the differences in recoil between 5.56 vs. 7.62×39 vs. 308. And he added 30-30. I was surprised myself when comparing 7.62×39 vs. 30-30, the Russian round is much softer shooting. You often see them compared and rightfully so but my 30-30 kicks a lot harder than my AK.
In this video, I compare the bullets of the worlds two most popular rifle platforms. The American AR-15 and the Russian AK-47. Let me know what you think guy.

I also shoot 6.5 Grendel steel case and that stuff has barely jumped in price as well. My PSA 12” runs without issue with E-lander 17s & CPD 20 rnd mags. But 7.62×39 is the roach of rifle rounds, always there, always cheap.

Feb 01, 2016 · there are so many other factors that lead me to abandoning 7.62×39 for 5.56. after about 200 yards the 556 carries more energy and this is increasingly so as distances increase and even more so with the 75 grain ammo with high BCs. besides that the expansion on 7.62×39 bullets was never that great and would often over-penetrate before yawing doing about as much damage as a 32acp shot.
Jan 12, 2019 · 5.56 vs 7.62x39mm: Rifle Selection Probably due to the military roots of the cartridges, the 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x39mm are most commonly chambered in semi-automatic rifles. In particular, AR platforms like those made by Bushmaster, CMMG, Noveske, Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Wilson Combat, are extremely popular with the 5.56 NATO.
Dec 01, 2018 · I’d like to get a 6.5 Grendel AR. It seems to be a great all around round, that works with the AR15 platform. It is a good step up from 5.56 and 7.62X39, and doesn’t require the weight or recoil of the .308 (which isn’t bad anyway). 5.56 vs 7.62×51? The clear answer is.
There are 7.62×39 AR's built on standard receivers, the downside is use must use a hybrid magazine that fits into the AR magwell but then has the extreme curve needed for the round after the mag is out of the magwell. The other option is to use a lower manufactured to use the standard (more reliable) AK magazine.

Sep 10, 2005 · 5.56 vs 7.62×39 The 5.56 has "More" range, but its out of gas by the time it gets there. The 7.62×39 is designed to kill or disable enemy troops inside of 300meters and it does, the 5.56 was designed to keep from penetrating the bodies of the multi-million dollar aircraft the Air Security Police (for whom the AR-15 was designed) were guarding.
Jan 03, 2020 · Cartridge dimensions, bullet diameter and bullet weight: 5.56x45mm (5.56 NATO) on the left, 7.62x39mm (AK-47) on the right. Bullet weight: 5.56 – 62 grains (4 grams) typical AK-47 – 122 grains (7.9 grams) typical Muzzle velocity: 5.56 – 2800 fps t.
7.62×39 manages to cut the ballistic performance of 7.62x54R in half and pass none of the weight savings along to the grunt. 7.62 has worse terminal performance, a more arced trajectory and the rounds are generally of lower quality (e.g. steel cased vs brass for cheap plinking ammo) than 5.56 NATO.
Nov 03, 2006 · When the bullets dont fragment the 5.56 still has superior wound profile during its relatively early yaw cycle when comaparing ball 7.62 to most OTM .223/5.56 so it does not automatically lose outside the frag range. If there was propper bullet development the 7.62×39 would smoke 5.56 in every category under 200 yards.
The 7.62×39 doesn't typically fragment at all, instead getting is net effect from a combination of penetration and yawing. Since the velocity of a 7.62×39 bullet fired from a 10" barrel is not dramatically lower than that of a 16" barrel, the end results stay the same, and the effective range is not so hindered.

Jun 03, 2014 · 7.62×39 Vs. 5.56 NATO. 6/3/2014 0 Comments This debate will never truly end. Before I start getting hate mail and people yelling at me over social media I want to say right now, I’m not a scientist, nor do I have numerous ballistic tables. All I will speak of is.
